The homeowners desired a massive outdoor entertainment space that maximized their scenic views, but they had one major structural requirement: preserving the wide-open usability of their walkout basement patio below.
Engineering an Open Walkout Basement

In this project, the customer requested an expansive 24+ foot upper deck. However, standard framing for a deck of this magnitude would typically require a forest of support columns, severely obstructing the lower patio area.
To solve this, our expert structural builders utilized high-strength Versa-Lam LVL (Laminated Veneer Lumber) beams. These advanced engineered wood beams offer superior load-bearing capacity compared to traditional lumber. By integrating LVL beams into the framework, we were able to safely span the massive 24+ foot distance using only two support posts. The result is a highly secure upper deck and a brilliantly unobstructed, wide-open lower patio—perfect for hosting guests and family gatherings.
